At the end of November, we got an exciting message. The chassis: a custom-made carbon fiber monocoque, strengthened to be able to withstand anything we are going to throw at it, the basis on which our fast-charging electric racecar is going to be built, was ready for delivery! When we got this exciting news, we didn’t have much time to celebrate, as transport arrangements had to be made within a week.
Thankfully, we were well prepared. Déjan and Julian traveled to Leeds to inspect the chassis and to support the transport crew. They even had enough time for a tour through the racecar factory! The chassis then soundly made its way across the channel, and on the glorious day of the third of December 2019, it had arrived in our garage.
Unlike a lot of other student teams, we did not produce our chassis in-house. We decided on this because unlike these other student teams, our car will be able to reach speeds of over 300km/h. Relying on the expertise and experience of a renowned racecar manufacturer has two great advantages:
1. It allows us to put more time and effort into our core challenge: Electric Refueling!
2. A much higher standard of safety for the driver
We decided that the first people to see the chassis were the team members and old team members of InMotion. We also decided the next people to see it should be our partners, the people who have helped us get to this point and acquire such a beautiful chassis. And therefore, after our partner drink on the sixth of February 2020, we can finally show you the pictures of our custom-built chassis, right here in our garage.
